Ok, when you add a piece of hardware to your existing system, don't you usually TURN THE THING OFF first? I do.
But Bill Gates doesn't. He tried to plug in a scanner during a presentation, and Windows '98 crashed. That's hilarious.
Someone had to bring it up, so here it is. Fire away.

Well one goal of this whole "Plug 'n' Play" nonsense is to be able to add and remove components on the fly, without having to power down and reboot each time. And a noble goal it is.
Personally I'm just happy to see Bill Gates get another pie in the face.

well, they were using something called the Universal Serial Bus (USB) that is optically isolated from the computers electronics to prevent electronic damage. it was specifically intended for "hot plugging" peripherals on the fly. your standard serial and paralell ports are NOT designed with this protection, hence if a power or signal line makes contact before the ground pins do... PFFFFT! there goes your port and possibly worse (at least concievably....) but it does point up something i have been saying for a while..... microsoft's QC/QA SUCKS!

I'm sure it's already been done, but "Plug N Play" is a great name for a porno flick.
