A tribute to a fellow geek

Not meaning to bum anyone out here, but I lost a great freind this week and without asking any permission I'm posting a rather cathartic bit of typing of mine here in his memory.

To look a him, you would swear he was the Marlboro Man's younger brother..until he began to talk computers and electronics. Technical manuals were interesting reading for him, his demeanor took smartass to a refined art, he was always ready to teach anyone anything he knew if they wanted...and even if they didn't they were likely to get an earful anyway. I was going to read this at the funeral, but after his daughter spoke, I was too clogged up to do it properly...besides, what she said kind of said it all, and I didn't want to pollute it with anything.

When We Say Goodbye

Having known you is something that we all can share,

And doing without you will be hard to bear.

We'll never forget you, this much is true.

But even this sap's probably too much for you.

So farewell Lee, save us a spot.

It's not what you've bought, it's not what you've got.

The things you do, and what you learn,

Back up what you say when it comes your turn.

These are some things that I've learned from you,

Also how to live them when came time to

Is the example you set. Because right or wrong,

We must face life as it comes along,

By doing and being the best we know how.

Perhaps our example will help people now,

And even after we've gone, and can teach them no more,

Of what we ourselves learned, from the people before.

Thanks Lee, for both who and what you are,

We all know, in truth, you haven't gone far.

We must all remember, when we start to cry,

That it's never forever, when we say goodbye.

For Lee

Ok..I'm through...just had to get that off my chest.

Sorry to hear about the loss dude.

Was he someone we might have known? I knew a lot of Lee's that have been online over the years.

All: Thanks a bunch. He would have fit in here frighteningly well, but being a working stiff and running a computer business out of his house left him little time between the classes to do anything but. His name was Lee Kent...and the boy could PLAY Command and Conquer! [showing the peanut gallery the size 12 boot-marks on his butt] I never got to let him have a crack at me with StarCraft, though.
