What are your feelings on the airing of the 60 Minutes/Kevorkian publicity stunt... er, important news event?

I didn't see it, but I'm strongly in favor of televised-- I mean legalized euthanasia. Kevorkian may have a bit of an ego, but I think he's trying to do a good thing.

btw, if you're not already aware, but sure to check out the good people at the church of euthanasia.

i dunno if you were aware sooz, but channel 11 (the local affilliate) pulled the plug on that portion of the show because A.H.Belo, the owner of the station didn't "like" the idea of broadcasting euthanasia. so probably quite a few people here didn't get to see it anyway...... personally, i think if your remaining life is expected to be quite painful and you really don't want the last thought in your mind being "Damn, I wish this pain would stop." then you oughtta have the right to go out with a bang instead of a whimper.... and if you need a little help getting it done and there is no coersion then so be it.

But the question, Ror, was how did you feel about it being televised. Lots of the Nunnites aren't Houstonites, so I was kinda asking globally.

sooz, I DO recall saying "many" not "all"..... and i thought i answered that question by saying tha if someone wants outta this veil of tears that oughtta be thier right.... but perhaps my feelings on the actual airing of the deed were unclear (i know what i meant, whay can't people read my mind?!?!?) anything that forwards the issue hey, fine by me....hell, i see worse stuff on the news....

He did ask the patient if it was ok to kill him off, and the man nodded "yes". Kevorkian forgot, though, to ask if he could have the tape televised to further his crusade later that day.

"And here we see Professor Jones, being assisted by dr. Kervorkian with the unplugging of his life-support machinery. It is well known that Professor Jones had been diagnosed with a rare form of Tourrette's Syndrome, which caused him to publically criticize Our Commissar's valiant work towards securing the borders of our glorious State. Professor Jones' acknowledgement of the gradual deterioration which would continually mark this chronic and incurable disease allowed him to decide to retain his dignity. The Professor's last words: 'I hope that my own weakness and diseased mind have not done anything to hurt our great Nation. Let me now exit the scene before I ruin the play.'"

Oh, yah, I guess you're right.

You see, I was drawing a parallel between assisted suicides and methods an oppressive state might use to rid itself of dissidents.

Better?
