By now, you're probably aware that my peace corps stint thing got into a tangle once the nepalese decided they didn't want any engineers. it's all sorted out now, and I'm happy to say i'm 100% definitely (and by definitely i mean as definite as I was about going to nepal) going to jamaica come july. did you know that blackbeard the swashbuckling pirate lived in jamaica? did you know port royal, the den of buckaneer sin, fell into the caribbean following an earthquake? did you know that "cool runnings" isn't just a name of a movie, it's also the jamaican way of saying "no problem"?
well that's about all i know about jamaica. anyone else have any info or experiences they can share with me?

so I hear. country description i got from peace corps doesn't address the issue, but it does say we're supposed to be "role models."

I had a student from Jamaica last Friday and every Friday I always listen to the local college rock station from Vanderbilt University to a show that plays reggae, rocksteady, dub, roots-ska, and all forms of Jamaican music. I had it on when she got in the car, and she was singing along through the whole lesson. I was just glad I could bring a little joy to someone through the power of music. And although, she had another instructor many times before, she will probably be requesting me from here on out. Not that I mind, but teaching adults to drive is...well, to be honest...it can be a fucking nightmare, but I digress.
I know this post has little (ok, very little) to do with the subject, but I figured since I rarely post much of anything, I should get off my ass and do something.
