The slashdot effect

Interesting... I was checking my statistics log today and noticed that, for yesterday, my number of "sessions" served jumped from the usual 50-ish to a whopping 383. Checking the referrer log, I see that a lot of folks were coming from this discussion thread on Slashdot.

Skimming the thread I see that somebody linked to the Jane Horvath placenta article, although whether they copied it wrong or slashdot munged it up, the URL has an extra space in it which results in folks going directly to a 404-Not Found page.

But STILL... even if they aren't actually finding the BBS, it's kinda nice to see that a bunch of folks are getting *close* to finding it.

Woo-- woo? Yeah, that's ALMOST fame I guess. :-)

D'ya suppose the orignial poster citing Horvath is a Nunizen, or did a search engine find the gfiles?

The original poster of the link to Horvath is Fang himself.

I didn't recognize any of the details of the original poster of the link to Horvath. I kinda suspect whoever it was found it via search engine.

Whoaa! Look at all these search results! Maaan that list is HUGE.

You know what else is interesting about the way Google does that list (yeah I know I'm a little slow sometimes) is that it prioritizes it's returns by the URL that's been getting the most hits. Everyone gets a chance to see where the most people have been looking.
I found some of those results interesting.
