In Search of Ancient Hardware

Okay, here's the thing.

I've "inherited" some 486 hardware and I wanna make it halfway usable for my sister to use. If she doesn't want it, I'm thinking about putting Linux on it just for grins.

Anyway, I need a PCI motherboard that'll support a 486DX4-100 and I'd like it to have on-board IDE/Serial/Parallel so I can put a drive worth using in it.

Anyone have any ideas? Maybe have one laying around? Lemme know.

I thought I had one in the back of my closet but I was mistaken. Sorry.

I gotta 486 motherboard with VLB slots though...and maybe an EIDE I/O card.

you will NOT find a PCI/486 mother board..... they don't exist. you can fnd VLB boards and EISA boards but if you find a PCI board I'll buy you dinner. I d have a 6x cd-rom i'll sell ya cheap. I got a WD 720 mb drive that I am currently using. i could probably be convinced to part with it but it would be a pain in the ass to rip it outta the machine at this point (too many things reside on it...)

I've just re-acquired the old 286 I used to run the old dialup Grunion on.

I just acquired a NeXTstation Turbo system running OpenStep 4.2. VERY COOL!

The next thing on my list to find is a TRS-80 Model III or IV in good working order and cosmetic condition.

I'm about to acquire an old 486 system from work for $90.00.

I'll give ya the specs when I find out what they are.

Yeah, I got the NeXTstation on eBay. (Aiiieee! I've been bitten by the eBay bug!!!) Really good cosmetic condition, and very snappy for a 33MHz CPU! OpenStep 4.2 is great to work in from what I've seen so far...gotta love that interface!

eBay is a trip. You could put a dog turd up there, and someone would bid on it.

In fact, I might do that. I'll let you know what the results are. Don't forget to do your eBay search... "dog +turd"

Don't bother, I already got one from WebAuction.

Damn. It's too late. I did a search for "TURD" on eBay, and got 2 hits, both for dinosaur poop. They've both been bid on, one several times. Damn.
