...Okay, umm, I'm taking my temporary mp3 holding pen offline, temporarily, because I'm trying to get my ISP to quit blocking port 80, so that I can run Personal Web Server, which simply cannot be configured to listen on another port (at least not the Windows 98 version).
Basically, if my ISP starts snooping around to see what sorta activity I'm generating, I suspect gigabytes of pirated music would make a bad first impression.

Aw shoot, just rename all the files to "Teletubbies Script.xxx" where xxx is a random number.
(If they snoop further and ask how come none of the files are readable with Notepad, look over your shoulder covertly and say "because they're enKREEPtid.")

It's not as though it wouldn't be incredibly easy for someone from wt.net to log onto this BBS and read all about it...
Or are they truly 33L33T ENUFF?

Well, here's a suggestion. There's a compact little WEB server called Xitami, runs under 95/98 & NT. It's light, compact, and can be configured to run under something other than standard port 80. Not real hard to configure either. The interface to configure is HTML based, so how hard COULD it be?

Jim: Yup, no problems at SWBell so far. I can browse both of the boxes with Apache on them from outside with no problems. I'm also able to telnet in/out and ftp in/out. My encrypted VPN link to the office works fine too. Hell, I could probably NFS mount through them, I just haven't tested it yet.
SWBell seem to take the Hands-Off, Your-Security-Is-Your-Problem attitude which is how I like it.

I think it's probably more a matter of greed. wt.net doesn't WANT people running servers on their "consumer grade" connections, since that would use a lot of bandwidth.
Blocking ports 80 and 21 keeps the neophyte warezhounz from playing.

Yeah, heaven forbid I bring their network to a grinding halt with a constant 128kbit outbound data stream.

Yaah, okay, the mp3 holding pen is back. Those ISP weasels aren't gonna open up port 80 for me no way no how, so I'm basically hosed until I get an NT machine... sigh...

Sorta.. I looked at their stat sheet. They don't support ASP, so it's not gonna help.
I'm probably just going to end up buying or building up another box so I can run Personal Web Server under NT without screwing up my nice *primary* machine.

Ahh, yeah your right. Doesn't support ASP.
I THINK they have one version that does, but that one ya has to pay for.
Of course, you could always run NT server on the other box, and eliminate a LOT of problems running a WEB server! :)
