Ya know what really burns my butt? I'm tired of hearing about how Jim Carrey is gonna win an Oscar for his portrayal of the late Andy Kauffman, when the movie ain't even gonna be released until the 24th. So here we are, the morning of the 20th, and the newspapers are hollering "Possible Oscar for Carrey as Kauffman!" Geeeez. Please give us a chance to SEE it before you put THAT much of a slant on it.
(Pardon. I'm speaking rhetorically to the press, sorta.)

Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls was on TV the other night, and I happened to switch over to it just as he was being ejected from the ass of a rhinocerous. Jim Carrey being ejected from the ass of a rhinocerous was too much for me to take, and now I'm addicted to heroin again. THANKS, MR. OSCAR-WINNIN' MAN!

So I went last night and saw Man In The Moon (as opposed to Man In The Rhinoceros), and it was quite amusing. I enjoyed it, I thought it was funny, and it was well-acted and directed.
But basically, at the core, it's a movie meant to put Andy Kaufman on a pedestal he would kick over if he were alive to see it. I secretly hope that rumors start flying that he was a baby-killing Satanist or something, for the added shock value (and because it might mean he really did fake his death). Anyway, if you follow popular culture at all, you'll be required to have an opinion about this movie so go see it.

I saw it last night and I also enjoyed the film quite a bit. It's not a very in-depth view of Andy Kaufman, so don't go expecting to get to know who and what Andy Kaufman was about. However, if you're either not familiar with his work or haven't seen his work in a while and would like to rediscover what the hubbub was all about, this is a pretty good film to do that with.
It struck me as sort of a VH1's Behind the Music of Andy Kaufman's career.

I was at the theaters myself yesterday (Galaxy Quest - great movie. See it.), and saw a stand-up for one of Carrey's next projects, due November 2000 - The Grinch. Yep, the one who sacks Whooville, the Grinch is to be done live action with Carrey as the mean green guy himself. Although, this prospect doesn't get my blood racing as much as the upcoming Rocky and Bullwinkle movie.

I don't think movies need to be advertised a year in advance.

I agree with sooz, and would like to add that there are plenty of ORIGINAL ideas for movies... Why do we need a live-action Grinch? Chuck Jones' version wasn't good enough?

I think I remember reading that Carry wanted to do it. Mostly because he does a mean Boris Karloff...

Of course, Boris, being the kind of man he was, would probably LOVE clawing his wormy ass outta the ground to shamble over to Carry's house for a good strangle.

If that's the case, then how do you explain the continued existence of Martin Landau, who played Karloff in Ed Wood?

Homer, sweetheart, Landau played Bela Lugosi in "Ed Wood".

Trivia:
Jim Carrey and Andy Kaufman were both born on January 17.
So were Muhammad Ali, Shari Lewis, Benjamin Franklin, James Earl Jones and Yours Truly.
Weird, huh?

So does this mean you are going to become an actor or a statesman?

It means that Roxanne is going to be the voice of Darth Vader in Star Wars: Episodes 4-6, whenever they get made.

Luke, I am your father; but I have always felt like I was trapped inside the wrong body...maybe it began way back when I'd see your mother, Amadalia in those silky, luxurious clothes...when she wasn't around, I'd secretly try them on. Now I have to take the next step and make the physical transformation, after which you will refer to me as "Mommy Dearest"!

I *liked* the movie, but I suppose you have to be an Andy Kaufman fan to enjoy it.

I finally rented it the other day. While Carrey was superb, as reported, the movie was just okay.

I thought MAN ON THE MOON was brilliant meself.
I never used to be much of a Carrey fan until that movie. He should've gotten an Oscar. A cryin' shame if ya ask ME. (But no one did.)
