Well, like I said, I was in Redmond (yes, *that* Redmond). And it was 5pm, and I was on the wrong side of lake Washington, and the traffic was bad, and it was raining and there were high winds, and who wouldn't want to park the car and go into a movie on a whim? Oh, and David Duchovny is, in fact, adorable.
So I went to see Evolution at this multiplex at one of those big almost-indoor malls of the type that dot the west coast, that try to be charming but fail miserably. It's a mall movie. It reminded me of going to see Ghostbusters, because a lot of the same people were involved in producing the movie, and also because I saw Ghostbusters at a mall. It's also a mall movie.
The premise: unicellular organisms land on Earth on a meteor. These organisms evolve quickly, and before you know it, there are weird monsters running about.
Ghostbusters had Bill Murray. Just enough of an ordinary guy to cue the audience how to react, and just enough of a freak to be funny. Evolution has no one. Duchovny (while still being cute) walks through the movie as blandly as he can, and no one else takes up the slack. Ghostbusters had endearing, mischevious monsters, whereas Evolution has evil noseless beings that will rip your throat open. Ghostbusters had the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man, bent on destroying the world, whereas Evolution has a giant anal orifice with pseudopods, trying to survive in a hostile environment.
I ask you, which *sounds* funnier?

It's being hyped as "Ghostbusters" meets "Men in Black". Though "MIB" struck me as a "Ghostbusters" movie anyway...so anything more seems like it would be overkill.
I'll wait for the video...

Damn. I was gonna see it, too, because -- just as Homer stated -- David Duchovny IS cute.

There's a song by some singer-songwriter woman I heard on one of the local radio stations. She sings, "Won't you love me/David Duchovny?"
