I finally saw this on DVD last night at my neighbor's. I know, I'm so far behind...
What did everyone else think?

If you're going to go to the trouble of re-creating the landing at Normandy, at least have the sense to write dialog that soldiers might actually say, instead of making them mouthpieces for a high-minded philosophical diatribe.
And speaking of Speilberg, I went to see AI last night. Again: If you're going to go to the trouble of creating a rough and tumble real world where your characters live, at least have the sense to show the main character resolving his situation in relation to that real world.

After doing a little research on AI, I found out that in the original script, the mother was an alcoholic. In the movie, David, the robotic boy, makes a big deal out of making the mother's coffee just right... The character of the mother is just much more understandable if you replace that with bloody marys...

I thought AI was boring and depressing.

About storming the beach at Normandy: I've read interviews with Vets that thought the dialogue was right-on, and quite accurate.
I'm not trying to be argumentative here, I swear...

I know all of you disagree on this but my personal "worst possible waste of film stock" award has to have been pulp-fiction. I was unable to watch more than 20 minutes of it before the dry heaves made it impossible to continue. Tarantino has got to be the worst director on the planet.....

pulp fiction: i was not all that impressed. i sat all the way through it, but i was never able to figure out what all the fuss was about. i think tarantino is over rated, although i loved "reseviour dogs"

Tarantino is good in the way that crack is good. People like it because it fills some kind of sick need, and it's really good at doing what it does, but ultimately it's still crack, and ultimately Tarantino is merely ironic.
