I was persuaded to see this yesterday. I can't claim to be a fan of the books, I've read "The Hobbit" and "Bored of the Rings" by the Harvard Lampoon, but the movie was quite engaging even for someone as firmly grounded in reality as myself.

And then there were a bunch of orcs, and then there was a Balrog, and then they all leapt across the yawning chasm, and then...
...they all started clogging!

Yes, I also thought it was high on the Entertainment Scale. And frankly, that's why I go to movies... to just sit back and be entertained (it's amazing how many movies do NOT meet the mark). This one was cool, though. Lots of eye-candy. I really liked Gandalf (played by the fabulous Ian McKellen).

I've seen it once. I know people who've already seen it 3 and 4 times.
I thought it was entertaining and had incredible production value. I think there's probably 5-6 minutes you could cut, but when you're coming in at 178 minutes, would that really make a difference? Maybe just in pacing. Maybe you could use that time for an intermission so my bladder didn't come close to exploding.
Anyway, it's fun. I recommend it. It's very well done and may seem familiar even to people who haven't read the books just in that it has been the template for so much after it (yet before these movies, obviously). Go see it.

LORD OF THE RINGS!
My new alltime favorite movie. I've seen it 4 times by now. Probably going to #5 tomorrow.
I have insufficient words to describe the film. See it if you haven't already. And if you have...see it again.

I'm sorry, but I don't share near that level of enthusiasm.
I thought it was good. I thought it covered the bases as far as the book was concerned without requiring a viewer to have any knowledge beforehand. I thought it was well worth seeing. Maybe even TWICE, if you can find the time. I did not think it was all THAT, though.
I certainly don't see spending 15 hours of my life watching it in the theater over and over. Of course, I didn't understand the people who did the same with Titanic, either.

I do. I took the day off from work. =) I saw it the afternoon of opening and I went back that night with friends to see it again. I think partly I'm just sooo relieved that it didn't suck, I had such LOW expectations and was just blown away.

i have to side with gowan on this one...not on lord of the rings, i haven't seen it. but, i rarely see a movie more than once in the theatres, and never more than twice. i wait until it comes out on video or dvd before i begin watching it over and over.

I am a multiple-time viewer. I've seen LOTR three times now. When Gladiator was out, I saw it five times. Chocolat... three times... I love seeing a good movie more than once. Why should the experience only last THREE hours, when it can last FIFTEEN? I'm definitely with Sorc' on this one.

Good on ya' Witchy! Somehow I just knew were a good egg when I saw you! =)
Gladiator viewings in theater:3 (now I own the DVD ;>)
LOTR viewings: 5 as last weekend. WOOHOOO!!
It really takes alot to get me out to a movie theater, I usually wait for Pay-Per-View or rental. The last films I actually went to a theater to see before LOTR was Gladiator, before that Phantom Menance (saw it 1 time), before that was First Knight (saw it 0.75 times). Don't recall what it was before that...too long ago.
So that should tell ya' something about my willingness to go to see LOTR 5 times. =) It still doesn't seem like it's three hours long to me. I still laugh at the same parts and tear up and the same parts. It's great IMHO.

I *have* seen movies at the theater multiple times, but I don't think I've ever seen anything more than twice during its initial release.
I do own movies on DVD that I watch again and again, but then, it's with time between in, not usually even within a week of each other.
I can generally run a movie I've seen recently back in my head. I love movies, don't get me wrong, but I just never have wanted to go to the theater that many times. Hmm.
To each their own, of course.
(Psst..Sooz hasn't even seen it ONCE!)

i am still with gowan, i love movies, and i like going to movies in the theatre. if i like it, i buy it on dvd and watch it again and again, but when there are so many movies in the theatre to choose from, i try to see several of them, rather than one at a time.
of course, i haven't seen lotr, either. i actually haven't been to a movie since momento back in april. but this is primarily do to my present state in life, not a lack of movies to see.

Maybe Rox should tell us which nipple remains (left or right), in case both she and Hazel are in the same room wearing thin shirts, except half the room is warm and the other's cold.

And $350? A plane ticket is prolly cheaper.

There's a line from Austin to San Antonio (it actually goes as far north as Chicago, if you want to go that far out of the way), and then the line from San Antonio to LA, and then the Pacific Starliner that goes between San Diego and Vancouver, BC.
The Pacific train is one of the most worthwhile rides you'll ever take.

I seriously have a thing for yellow rubber ducks. I have a little family of ducks that routinely float in my bathtub... and then there's their outlaw cousins, the glow-in-the-dark, sunglasses-wearing, neon-beaked ducks. They hang out too.
Yellow ducks are cool.
