The in-laws took Jimmy to see Pleasantville, and all gave it a resounding yawn.
Anyone else?

I thought it was great.
There's a preachy bump near the end, but they move past it pretty quickly and get back to the business of entertainment.
Two big thumbs up.
I mean, c'mon, it's got DON KNOTTS in it. How can you go wrong?

Ugg. Now I'm glad I didn't go. I can't bear to hear Knotts whiny voice.

i liked it personally. on the outside, it's a simple twilight zone episode, but it's really neat to see the effects and there's some interesting social commentary (interesting for an big-budget movie, anyways). the way it's done, you can almost imagine pleasantville existing.
possible spoiler follows.
what really bugs me though is how certain kids are sexually harassing and still black and white. i mean, just how is sexual harassment part of 'pleasantville'?

Yah.. in the scene where they're breaking the malt shop window (because it has a color mural on it), all those rioters would have become colorized. Loved the June-Cleaver-masturbates-for-the-first-time scene, tho.

Oooo! Did you see Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil? I liked it, but I felt there was sooooo much missing from the movie. Now I'll have to go get the book.

I saw Midnight last night. I liked it. I've gotten to where I rather like alot of John Cuzack's films. Gross Point Blank was pretty good too.

I loved Gross Point Blank. Did you hear about that Katy Teacher who was killed this morning/last evening at home. This is a terrible thing. I called the school to talk to the Scholarship Gawd and heard about it. He said the press was there at 6:30 starting interviews. All the kids were very upset and the school was in caos. Sheeze.

Wow! No I hadn't heard that! I've been working pretty solid to finish up this network assesment for one of our clients and haven't even turned on the TV or radio since Friday. That's pretty rough! Did the girls know the teacher?

Yes, but they didn't have her in any of their classes. I think they are going to let school out half a day on Friday because they can't find enough subs to cover so all the teachers can go to the funeral. Fingers are pointing more at the husband as the killer. It's very sad.

Ya' know I heard some people talking about this I think while I was having lunch at my neighborhood Hotdog House. Was there something about the woman being pregnant? And was there something about the father having one of their kids with him?
I dunno...I just heard bits and pieces while I was waiting on my FireDogs and chile.

She was eight months pregnant. Now fingers are bending from the husband to maybe one of his students. He is a coach in Alief.

Speaking of Harlan Ellison, he's gotta be hopping mad right about now. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (aka The Academy Award people) have decided to give the Thalberg lifetime achievement award to Elia Kazan. Kazan was a big deal in the McCarthy trials because they had him pegged as a Communist and he rolled over on a bunch of his buddies to get immunity.
It's one of Ellison's little pet peeves that Kazan would be considered human, much less deserving of a lifetime achievement award.
I hope he ends up on Politically Incorrect in the next few weeks. It'll rock!
