I was flipping through network channels for no apparent reason the other night, when I saw "From Dusk Til Dawn - Quentin Tarrentino" (sp?) flash on the screen. Now, I realize that my neighbor Quentin is nuttier than a bowl of Chex party mix, but I thought it might prove interesting. And sure enough, it was.
There were good guys, bad guys, an innocent teenage girl, a mad rapist that keeps eyeing the girl, a kindly old man, and best of all, vampires and bats. There was George Clooney doing the only decent acting job I've seen (and I'm even an ER fan), and there was Cheech Marin in not one, but two sleazy roles.
I'd never seen a Quentin film, but I laughed my ass off. He seems to have made horror mixed with comedy an art form. The worst part was the removal of probably some of the best scenes, and the bad voice-over dubs, where George Clooney says "He's a real mother lover, isn't he?"
Have y'all seen this movie?

I saw it a few years ago. I think I liked it enough to not regret renting the video, but not enough to remember much about the movie.
Okay, so now you must rent Pulp Fiction.

_From Dusk Til Dawn_ is a GREAT flick.
It's really too bad they pawned off the two made-for-video sequels on others instead of Robert Rodriguez and Tarantino doing them hands on.
He hasn't done anything else in this genre, either, although his segment in _Four Rooms_ isn't bad.
If you're looking for something else in this vein, you might wanna try the Evil Dead movies, particularly the last one, _Army of Darkness_.

The TV version was a little too watered down for me, but I was somewhat impressed with the editing job they did. I highly suggest renting the movie.
Also, I've found myself renting the Evil Dead movies and Army of Darkness so often I ended up buying them. Definitely worth the $6.99 each at Target. :)
Heck, why not make a night of it and get John Carpenter's Vampires as well? ...That was supposed to be a funny movie, right?
Quentin's movie group also did a great little flick with one of the Baldwin boys called "Curdled". Not supernatural, but very much filled with dark humor. A winner, if only for some of the facial expressions.

While you're renting vampire movies, get the original "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". Major yukks, and seeing Paul Reubins as a vampire is worth the rental fee alone.
(He is SO not Pee-Wee in this movie...)

Perhaps it is just me and my linear thought processes tripping me up but, i really did not like pulp fiction OR jackie brown much... in fact i had a very hard time even following what was going ON in pulp fiction.....at least jackie brown was more or less understandable....
by my way of thinking quentin tarantino's style of filmmaking went out in the early 70's

i have to agree with the jackie brown part--while it was an okay story it could've been a good hour shorter. even with such a cut, it would've been a mediocrely good movie. particularly if you compare it to a really good adaptation of an elmore leonard read, like "out of sight". there you get a sense of the characters without all the rambling prologue, there's none of the odd violence you see in jackie brown that i found completely out of character with the characters (only violence that is within character). of course, with out of sight, you also get all the time travel stuff you didn't like with pulp fiction, so maybe you won't like that movie either.

The soundtrack for From Dusk Til Dawn is quite good.
I'll be happy to MP3 it for anyone who cares.

That's one thing you've got to hand to Tarentino - his movies have some great sound-tracks. Deperado, Dusk till Dawn, even some of the snazzy surf-guitar riffs from Pulp Fiction...

Tarantino's a better screenwriter than director, and just forget about his acting ability. He peaked at Reservoir Dogs, and is now coasting on hipness alone.
I'm currently enamored of Luc Besson, especially after seeing Le Dernier Combat. Vive la France!

Luc's problem being he feels the need to make his girlfriend the lead actress in all of his films these days.
Let's face it, Milla Jovovich is nice to look at, but she ain't the greatest actress.

Unfortunately, the sound track from Desparado has dialogue from the movie in some of the best music. Can't seem to find anything by Tito & the Tarantulas apart from this soundtrack. Sigh!

Tito & Tarantula just released a new CD in March, all very Desperado-ish! Check it out...

The Tito CD is actually a compilation of all their soundtrack songs, that's all these guys seem to do. But for those Alex Cox fans, you might know Tito & Tarantula from the Repo Man soundtrack as The Plugz - they did the "Secret Agent Man" song in spanish....
