Ralf, you've seen Six-String Samurai, right? It's a postmodern masterpiece, ya know...
A lone samurai/guitarist named Buddy who wears horn-rimmed glasses and a black suit sets out to the post-apocalyptic Lost Vegas in order to become the new King of Rock and Roll. Lots of surf music. Lots of cool fight scenes. Wolfman Jack. The cannibalistic Cleaver family.
Well, that is WELL worth renting.

They made a comic adaptation of it!
That's all I've seen, though. It never made it around to Houston as far as I can tell.
On video now, you say?

Okay, dammit. Neither Ballbuster or Hollyweird Video have this flick.

I rented it from a great independent video place called Rain City Video.
But you folks live in the uncivilized parts of the world, where the independents have been swallowed up. Helas.

I got the tape this week and we watched it last night. Very Cool!
The whole movie feels like a dream somebody had and managed to transcribe before their first cup of coffee. I've had dreams that were so realistic and cool that for the first hour after I awaken I stumble around saying, "this'd make an AWESOME movie". I think somebody managed to do this.
The soundtrack is really incredible, but then I'm really into new instrumental surf music.

I said it before, and I'll say it again: the soundtrack is INCREDIBLE. 31 tracks of Russian Surf music courtesy of the Red Elvises, sound bytes from the movie, and the original orchestral score. Yummy.
PLUS, it's a multisession ECD, which means it's got stuff for your computer too. As a bonus they included an .MPEG version of the movie trailer.
This one's getting heavy rotation in my office!
