1. What is this place?
It's the empty husk of a web bulletin board system (BBS) that I ran from late
1997 to early 2002. Prior to this web incarnation, it existed as a single-line,
dialup BBS in Houston, Texas, from 1987 to 1995.
2. I found this place while searching for (whatever sick thing I am
into), and I enjoyed the messages I read. How can I add a reply?
You can't. I removed all the interactive functionality when I closed shop in
2002. Now there's nuthin' but static html archives here.
3. Why did you shut it down?
Lotsa reasons, and no good reason at all, really. There were advantages
and disadvantages to my having designed this web BBS to look and feel like the
old dialup version. Advantages: most of my old friends from the dialup days were
able to jump right in and feel right at home. Disadvantages: nobody else could.
There was a lot of fun and active participation early on, but eventually folks
started getting bored or getting caught up in their real lives, and attendance
waned. Ultimately, I just felt that the BBS had run its course, and I needed to
pull the plug before those of us who were left started pissing each other off.
4. Any chance you might re-open the BBS in the future?
I don't rule out the possibility of doing something similar here
again some day, but I don't have any plans to do so in the foreseeable future. I
got tired of my old software and would want to do some pretty hefty rewriting
before I'd open the doors again. And as a gainfully-employed programmer I just
don't have the will to work on it in what free time I have.
5. Do U want 2 cyber?
Not really, no.
